Pastor Sarah Welton's Biography

Sarah Ruth Welton was born and raised in upstate New York. Her mother was a registered nurse and her father was an American Baptist minister. Her father’s family carries a legacy that goes back to the Revolutionary War of serving as Baptist preachers. Her daughter, Mindi Welton-Mitchell is also an ordained American Baptist minister serving at the First Baptist Church of Framingham, Massachusetts. Pastor Sarah is locally ordained and in working toward recognition through the Evergreen Baptist Association of American Baptist Churches.
Sarah grew up in a home where racial equality, women’s rights, homosexuality, and other peace and justice issues were not just spoken about but where actions were taken to bring the issues to the public. Her father also had an interest in science especially physics so that Sarah spent time learning about the physical forces in the world, electronics, astronomy, and gadgetry. There was never any question that science and religion were compatible.
Sarah went to Linfield College, an American Baptist affiliated school in McMinnville Oregon, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She became a stay-at-home mom raising Travis and Mindi on a homestead-like area outside of Wasilla. During this time she dabbled in art, sewing, gardening, baking, and woodworking. She then worked for the local community mental health services in a variety of different positions over 10 years. During this time she earned her Master’s in Counseling Psychology.
Besides being the pastor of the Church of the Covenant, Sarah has a private counseling practice in Wasilla, is an adjunct instructor at Mat Su College, and serves on the local school board. She likes to be busy and is challenging herself by pursuing a PhD in Organizational Psychology.
Sarah shares a home in Wasilla with her husband Jerry Rexrode, Baxter the Beagle, and Sleater the Jack Russell Terrier.
